Kilgetty & Begelly Environment Group

What were they trying to achieve?

To involve as many as possible in improving the environment of the area.

Kilgety/Begelly, Pembrokeshire

September – December 2019

The project set about involving members of the local community in improving the environment of the ward area, building a consensus on priority areas for action, and offering opportunities for all residents to participate.

It kicked off with a community litter pick planned through a fledgling ‘Kilgetty, Begelly Environment Group’ and run in association with the local scout and cub group, ensuring involvement from all ages.  Many bags of litter were collected from right across the village.  Pembrokeshire County Council recycling advisors attended the day to answer questions from local people with regard to new recycling scheme.  An environmental artist together with local people created a sculpture made up of found materials and a light lunch was provided for all those who took part.  A second litter pick took place which was attended by more than 30 people.

Contact was make with Keep Wales Tidy who were supportive in helping to get the events organised

The group has since gone on to hold further meetings and have planned a work programme.

What went well and lessons learned

The project ran very smoothly, and no particular challenges were encountered in delivery.  Weather conditions were a concern in the run up to the event itself, however all went well on the day.   get more youth facilities in Llangollen
