KILGETTY AND BEGELLY - PEMBROKESHIRE
Kilgetty and Begelly are villages located between the market town of Narberth and the coastal village of Saundersfoot. Both Begelly and Kilgetty enjoyed a long mining history as part of the Pembrokeshire coalfield, one of the smallest in the UK, although that has now long gone.
The community of Kilgetty contains the villages of Killgetty, Reynalton and Begelly, with a population of around 2300.Kilgetty mainly developed as a railway service centre, its station opening in 1866.
The village has expanded over the last thirty years despite the reduced role of the railway. It has a number of shops as well some pubs, a cafe and a restaurant, with the Avondale Glass Blowing Studio an attraction for visitors. Begelly stretches along the main A478 and is home to the well-known Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo.
