Llangollen is an historic rural market town situated in the beautiful Dee valley between the Berwyn and Ruabon mountains, overlooked by Castell Dinas Bran. It has attracted visitors since the early 19th century.

The Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site are close to the town. Llangollen is perhaps most famous for its annual International Musical Eisteddfod, held every July at the Llangollen Pavilion, with competitors coming from more than 50 different countries. The town relies heavily on income from seasonal tourism.

Together with the surrounding areas of Froncysyllte and Garth, Acrefair and Llantysilio, the population is around 4,300.
