TALYBOLION - ANGLESEY
Situated in the north western portion of Anglesey, the Talybolion area is made up of numerous small villages with a total population of around 5000 of whom over 60% are Welsh-speaking.
It is a very rural area whose nearest towns are Holyhead and Llangefni. The Talybolion ward is made up of three LSOAs: Llannerchymedd, Mechell, and Llanfaethlu. Llannerchymedd itself was once a flourishing market town and home to a thriving shoemaking industry. It is situated close to Pen y Foel, a hill after which the local choir, Cor Meibion Y Foel is named. Mechell comprises several villages of which Llanfechell is the largest. A new primary school was opened at Llanfaethlu in 2017.
The decommissioning of the nearby Wylfa Power Station hit the area’s economy hard and a decision on the development of a proposed new Wylfa Newydd Power Station postponed for the time being.
